Than ... write DVDs for Zone 1 & All Zones - You need to be aware that "Zone 1 and all zones" may possibly mean "NTSC ONLY". I live in the USA and almost all of the manufacturers that sell electronics here seem to think that we have no need to play PAL video. You'll have to rip a PAL DVD and burn it and see if it plays or not.

I am having the same "problem" as Virtu3. I want to capture Xbox360 clan matchs with a capture card, while playing on my LCD ( HDMI ). My LCD monitor have an HDMI input ( ==> xbox360 ) and a DVI input ( ==> graphic card of my PC ) , so i don't have any other choice.
SD capture will suffice but i don't want to loose quality when ... Problem with SPDIF input - I can tell you that my X-Fi card can do it, but I think it has an on-board decoder. Sounds like you're almost working, but in software only.
You could try playing an audio-only AC3 file using the same method, it should play a little better with the reduced CPU load of no video. Also perhaps try a lo-bitrate sound file, for the same reasons.

Philips 5990 or 5992 Freezing? - I'm not sure if this DVP 5990 is defective or not but i have a large collection of xvid/divx movies burned onto disc and a portion of them are still located on cdr's and this player will completely lock up while playing these discs. Quick update - AVI ReComp converted the file without reporting any problems, and it plays perfectly on the 5960.
So the useful bits of my rapdly assembled toolkit look like gspot , avi recomp and mpeg4modifier .
AVI reComp provides some useful status information on GMC and Qpel for example even without doing any conversion.
Cheers... Help. Convert menu sublayer from 720x576 to 720x480 (PAL to NTSC) - So the question is how I can convert the sublayer .sup file from the size 720x576 to 720x480? I use Muxman for remuxing.

It's been awhile since I converted menus From PAL to NTSC. But the way I handled the subpictures was:
1) Use subrip to rip the subpic BMP's from the menus
2) Used XNView to resize from PAL to NTSC re ... How to add second audio track into a MKV file? - Use mkvtoolnix to add audio tracks to your mkv files. Extract audio tracks from video using for example mkvextractgui , xvid4psp (audio->demux) or avidemux (audio->save).

It's the last option on Page 2, of Setup/Preferences.... Avi to DVD and Audio Sync Issue - The audio *tab* shows the target bitrate of the file you produce, not the bitrate of the source. The Summary panes in ffmpegx tell you what ffmpegx believes to be the characteristics of the source.
The creeping sync problem is very common, and not always readily fixable within ffmpegx. If the error starts at zero, and ends up with the audio ou ... dvd recorder that records PAL and NTSC - WI has many DVDRs that record in NTSC and PAL. Some even convert from one to the other on the fly.

How to convert a DVD to a NORMAL AVI file using XviD4PSP? - If you want it to play back on a standard Windows XP install with no other codecs, then you have ot convert it to either mpeg-1, or WMV. a) ditch k-lite and every other codec pack before it ruins your system
